Watsonville was originally founded in the year eighteen fifty two, was officially incorporated in the year eighteen sixty eight, and was named after Judge John Watson. Watsonville is located in a part of Santa Cruz County called the Pajaro Valley, which is a great location for birdwatching, as the English translation of its name might suggest. There are more than two hundred species of birds in the region, and other popular recreational activities include swimming, boating, fishing, biking, hiking, snorkeling, and just relaxing in the California sun. Watsonville is home to a number of orchards, nurseries, and historic stores and homes, especially along the community’s main street and in the Watsonville Plaza.
