A little about Brookdale

Brookdale is a very small, charming mountain community found in the midst of Santa Cruz County, California, near the coast and the Pacific Ocean. Brookdale has a population of approximately one thousand residents, making it tiny even by the standards of the San Lorenzo Valley. Brookdale has a long history mostly centered on the logging industry and more recently on the redwood sequoia forests that have become a national icon of nature’s beauty and power. Brookdale is located along Highway Nine, about midway between Boulder Creek and Ben Lomond, two other valley communities. Brookdale has a generally temperate climate, which rarely achieves temperatures below freezing or above eighty degrees.

Brookdale is perhaps best known for the Brookdale Inn and Spa, which was originally built in the year eighteen ninety by Judge James Harvey Logan at the Grover Lumber Mill. The most recognizable feature of the Brookdale Inn and Spa is the Brook Room Restaurant, which has a stream running through it. In addition to providing excellent accommodations and cuisine, the Brookdale Inn and Spa is rumored to be haunted, making it even more of a tourist destination. Popular recreational activities in and around Brookdale include mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, and sightseeing.
