Pasatiempo is an originally master-planned, unincorporated community found in Santa Cruz County along the Pacific Coast. Pasatiempo is a relatively small, largely suburban town found along State Route/Highway 17. The founder of Pasatiempo was Marion Hollins, a notable golfer and captain of the US Curtis Cup team. Marion Hollins had an extremely ambitious vision for the community, although a number of the proposed commodities were precluded by the advent of the Great Depression. The construction of Pasatiempo started in the year nineteen twenty eight under the name of Pasatiempo Estates, which was supposed to be a sports and real estate complex.
The centerpiece of Pasatiempo is the Pasatiempo Golf Club, a beautiful facility that is rated as one of the best hundred golf clubs in the country. The Pasatiempo Golf Club was designed by famed architect Alsiter MacKenzie, who considered it his best work partially because of its incredibly scenic surroundings. Educational opportunities in Pasatiempo are offered by the Santa Cruz County School District in addition to local colleges such as the University of California – Santa Cruz, Kresge College, and Cabrillo College. In addition to the generally pleasant weather and convenient location, Pasatiempo is close to notable attractions such as the Seymour Marine Discovery Center, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, the Pacific Garden Mall, and the Roaring Camp Railroad.
