A little about Boulder Creek

Boulder Creek is a relatively small, mostly rural community found near the Pacific Coast of California. Boulder Creek has a population of approximately four thousand one hundred residents and is technically considered a census designated place. Boulder Creek is located in Santa Cruz County, and is popularly considered to encompass the neighboring communities of Forest Park, Forest Springs, Big Basin, Wildwood, Redwood Grove, Riverside Grove, San Lorenzo Park, and Bear Creek despite census bureau considerations to the contrary. Notable attractions in the general area of Boulder Creek include Merrybrook Lodge, Redwood Christian Park, and the Redwood Resort. Boulder Creek is home to the Boulder Creek Recreation and Park District, which operates the Pavilion and Annex, which boasts a gym, basketball court, volleyball court, computer room, classroom, and two playgrounds for the kids. Boulder Creek offers three other facilities as well – Junction Park, which is located adjacent to a river and offers a swimming hole, beach, and picnic facilities, Garrahan Park, which is home to a soccer field and playground, and the tennis court at Boulder Creek Elementary School. There is also a fourth site currently under construction near Junction Park, which will be called Boulder Creek Dam Park and utilized to provide additional swimming spots.

Despite its small size, Boulder Creek is home to a number of notable cultural events, and offers easy access to a number of others up and down the San Lorenzo Valley. Excellent examples include the Art and Wine Festival, traditionally held over Memorial Day Weekend, the Music Together Class series, the Boulder Creek Acoustic Music Society Open Song Circle/Jam Session, the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance, Christmas Festivities, the Run to the Redwoods, the Fourth of July Parade, the Redwoods to the Sea Garden Tour, and a number of festivals/carnivals sponsored by the school district. Boulder Creek is home to extensive natural beauty, as especially evidenced by the redwood forests that line the entire San Lorenzo Valley. Partially for this reason, Boulder Creek is the gateway to Big Basin Redwoods State Park, the oldest State Park in California.
